Considering the economic conditions of nowadays China, I think it's very hard to achieve the free and liberated teaching and learning the article talks about in the universities in China. In my university, there are computers and projectors in classrooms for daily teaching. But these equipments can only be used at fixed location and fixed time. We can not achieve the flexibility that IT can really bring us. And also, not all teachers make frequent use of these equipments. Some teachers including me prefer using these equipments in teaching and, with the help of these equipments, I can show things to students that text books can not make an impression in students' minds. This way of teaching also arouses interests of student. But, some teachers only consider these applications of IT as a kind of distraction and text books are their only belief. It seems to me that they avoid using the equipments on purpose.
This is the general situation of using IT in my university. And as far as I know, the application of IT in my university is a lot better than in many other universities. So, there are a lot jobs to do to realize flexibility, freedom and liberation that IT can bring us in China.

There are always people who tend to stick on old things/methods, just as what you mentioned that "not all teachers make frequent use of" the equipments in the classroom.
It is good of you using the equipments in your teaching. On one hand, you add variety to your teaching approaches; on the other, your lectures can impress your students and, as you mentioned, can also arouses their interests of learning English. Like you, although the facilities in my classrooms are poor, I do try to apply some to my teaching because I believe careful choosing of certain machines plus good planning can make a difference to the lectures.
However, if not using properly, applications of IT might act as a kind of distraction. This may be the reason that some old teachers would rather to choose not to involve any use of tech in their classrooms. But it seems to me that "avoiding using high tech equipments on purpose" is like pouring out the bath water together with the baby. It is never a good idea to avoid anything new. Old teachers need to change their views since the world is changing so fast each day.
I really envy you that you can make use of IT in your daily teaching. For me, the equipments are still not very accessible at my university. I do hope this problem can be solved soon. IT can really fill our classroom with more information, interest and excitement for both teachers and students.
As you mentioned that some teachers purposefully avoid using IT in their teaching, the reason I am concerning may lie in their lack of technology in applying IT appropriately in their teaching. This situation applies me, too.
Actually we should apply IT properly in our teaching which tratditonal classroom can not achieve. But the problem is that we teachers are not quite familiar with high-tech.
While students can also contribute to the problem. Students can have some difficulty in applying IT skillfully, and the majority of students prefer the print-based materials. Therefore, this needs both teachers' and students' co-effort to improve the situation.
I am sorry that I can not agree with part of Dinghua's ideas. I think students are more interested in IT technology and they learn more quickly than us. Maybe we should also learn from them.
